Shri Seven Steps (Drum The Bass) friday | 15:00:00 | 20.03.09 | Art-D-Fact Shrikanth Sriram alias Shri heeft al jaren een grote naam als het draait om elektronische cross-over muziek met een steevast gebruik van kruiden uit India. Gedurende de jaren ’90 oogstte hij al veel succes, bijvoorbeeld met DJ Badmarsh. Als het duo Badmarsh & Shri brachten ze twee langspelers uit via het bekende Outcaste label, die beide aansloegen bij een breed publiek.    Seven Steps, zijn derde soloalbum, wordt op de website van Shri omschreven als Britse muziek met een Indiaas accent. Shri legt uit: “When I speak, you can’t take out the Indian from my voice. I’m speaking English but there is an accent. That’s how I define my music”. En zo klinkt de muziek van Shri ook daadwerkelijk, ‘best of both worlds’ zou je kunnen zeggen. Liefhebbers van Nitin Sawhney komen bij Shri ruimschoots aan hun trekken.   Op Seven Steps vinden we indrukwekkende composities, waarbij prachtige, bijna klassieke passages (refererend aan de strijkpartijen) gecombineerd worden met Indiase invloeden, elektronische drumbeats op verschillende tempi en uiterst creatief gebruik van instrumenten dan wel samples. Het album telt elf tracks, waaronder de prachtige single Just For A Minute met de vocalen van Fola Phillip, een track waarvan ook een dub-step achtige mix door DJ Badmarsh gemaakt is. Die is alleen op de single te vinden.
